Santos Ruiz- Cordero, MD, JD

Santos Ruiz Cordero, MD, JD, was born in Puerto Rico where he attended the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez and received his BS Cum Laude in Biology. He then went to the Univesidad Autónoma de Guadalajara where he obtained his MD degree and returned to Puerto Rico to do his Rotational Internship at Hospital Comunitario Buen Samaritano in Aguadilla Puerto Rico.
Dr. Ruiz-Cordero has been working as a primary care physician and an ER screener physician in different settings including Urgent Care, Emergency Room, outpatient primary care, correctional medicine, addiction medicine, and outpatient mental health clinics.
Dr. Ruiz-Cordero also earned a JD degree in Puerto Rico and is admitted to practice law at The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, Federal Court for the District of Puerto Rico, 11th Circuit federal Appeals Court, and The Supreme Court of the United States.
He and his wife Maria Zayas-Vazquez cofounded Zayas-and Ruiz Immigration Attorneys LLC a Law firm 2016, dedicated to Immigration law in Fort Pierce Florida. He enjoys martial arts as he has over 35 years of experience in Karate having a 5th-degree black belt “Renshi”.

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
Iona E. Wedderburn, ARNP, ACNP-BC, is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified. Acute Care Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses that provide care to patients in acute care and hospital settings. This type of advanced practice provider is different from a primary care nurse practitioner. ACNPs see patients when they are sick, admitted to the hospital, or after a surgical procedure and/or trauma. Their focus is on caring for the adult population (young, middle, and older adults, ages 13 and older) with complex diseases.
Ms. Wedderburn has over six years of experience working in internal medicine at the University of Miami Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida. She received her Master's Degree from Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. Barry University is a private Catholic university in Miami Shores.
Ms. Wedderburn has been married for over 30 years and is the proud mom of two grown sons, the oldest of whom is a physician. She enjoys cooking, baking, crocheting, concerts, going to the opera, plays, and comedy shows, and spending time with her family, especially in the outdoors and camping.
Samir M. Shah, MD
General Practice
Samir Shah, MD, is a general practice physician who did post-graduate residency at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Dr. Shah comes to Pasco County after establishing a highly successful private practice for five years in West Virginia.
He was born and raised in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and has spent his life dedicated to patient care and long-term healthy lifestyle. Dr. Shah graduated valedictorian from his high school in 2003. He received his BS in Cognitive Neurology from the University of Michigan in 2007 and returned to West Virginia and completed his MD from Marshall University in 2015.
Dr. Shah is proud to have been selected by AMSA to participate in an eight-week training in Ifakara, Tanzania. He also did a year of research at the Medical University of South Carolina working with leading minds in stroke and movement disorder. He is the co-author and author of several articles and abstracts. While at Marshall University he was the founding member of Phi Delta Epsilon.
Dr. Shah followed in his father’s footsteps who was also a physician that came from India to the United States in the 1970s. His sister and brother-in-law are also physicians. He is married and he and his wife, who is also a physician, moved to Florida in October of 2021. He speaks fluent Hindi and Gujarati. He enjoys playing tennis, weightlifting, running, and traveling. He continues to follow Michigan athletics (NCAA football and basketball) and American and foreign film and music.
Connie J. Braun, MD
Board Certified in Internal Medicine
Connie Braun, MD, completed her internal medicine training at New York Hospital in affiliation with Cornell University, Flushing, New York. She was an honor graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology and communications in secondary education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in psychotherapy from Wester Michigan University. She received her medical degree from St. George’s Medical School in 1997.
Dr. Braun comes to Hernando County with a wide range of experience as a hospitalist and as an internal medicine specialist. While attending medical school she received the Jeoffrey Bourne Scholarship and was admitted to Tau Kapa Academic Fraternity.
Dr. Braun is a member of the American Medical Association, American Board of Internal Medicine, the Michigan Medical Society, and has been a president of the United States Board of Medical Specialties and is a member of the American Medical Review & Learning Center.
